The first ever Talking Heads concert took place 50 years ago at CBGB on June 5, 1975, opening for Ramones. A trio at the time, they were still figuring their sound out and getting used to performing music together, with a long way yet to go until they became the iconic band they now are.
One of the songs performed at that show, and nearly every other performance by Talking Heads, was "Psycho Killer", which was released 2 years later on their debut album, Talking Heads: 77. It wasn't until several years later in the MTV-era when their first music video was released in 1981 for "Once in a Lifetime", months after the album Remain in Light released. None of their songs prior to this album received an official music video, although fan-made music videos of their songs have been around on websites like YouTube for some time.
Their final music videos were released in the early 1990s, for "Sax and Violins" and "Lifetime Piling Up" (with the latter being a compilation of previous videos). Over 30 years later, "Psycho Killer" is receiving an official music video, putting it alongside their other most famous hits which already have one. The band teased it on social media several days earlier, first with the date "June 5, 2025" and then the next day with a short clip of the actress Saoirse Ronan brushing her teeth increasingly erratically. The next day, they confirmed that a music video for the song would be releasing and that it was directed by Mike Mills, whose filmography includes 20th Century Women (2016) and C'mon C'mon (2021) and music videos by a range of artists including Yoko Ono, Air, Martin Gore from Depeche Mode, Frank Blank from Pixies, Pulp, Blonde Redhead, and most recently several music videos by The National in 2019.
The music video for "Psycho Killer" is available now on the band's official YouTube channel.
